3D Printer Nerd — Help That Actually Fixes Your Prints

We’ve spent thousands of hours diagnosing why prints fail. Stringing at hour three. First layers that won’t stick. That one corner that always lifts. A new spool of PETG that prints like cotton candy. Every problem has a root cause, and every root cause has a fix that doesn’t require guessing.

This site is a systematic troubleshooting and buyer’s guide for FDM and resin 3D printing. No affiliate filler. No “top 10 printers you’ve already heard of.” Just structured answers that tell you what’s wrong, what to check first, what to change, and when to stop.

What We Cover

Buying Guides

Choosing a printer shouldn’t be a research project that takes three weeks. We match printers to use cases — miniatures, cosplay props, functional parts, engineering materials — and tell you who should skip each one.

Troubleshooting

Every print defect has a diagnostic order. We tell you what to check first, second, and last — and when the problem is mechanical, not a slicer setting.

Filament & Materials

PLA prints differently from PETG, which prints differently from TPU, which shouldn’t go through a Bowden tube at all. We cover temperatures, bed surfaces, storage, and which brand actually delivers.

First Layer & Bed Adhesion

The first layer is the foundation. If it fails, the print fails. Z-offset, bed leveling, surface selection, adhesion aids, and the brim-vs-raft decision — covered from diagnosis to fix.

Maintenance & Upgrades

Nozzle changes, belt tension, lead screw lubrication, PTFE tube replacement, and which upgrades actually improve print quality versus which ones just lighten your wallet.

Advanced Printing

Klipper vs Marlin, input shaping, pressure advance, enclosure builds, resin safety, and post-processing. For when you’ve mastered the basics and want more.

How We’re Different

We tell you when to stop. Most troubleshooting guides list everything that could possibly be wrong. We tell you the most likely cause first, what to try in order, and when the fix requires a new part, not another slicer tweak.

We distinguish by material. “Lower your nozzle temperature” is useless advice without knowing whether you’re printing PLA, PETG, or TPU. Every guide includes material-specific parameters.

We name alternatives. If a printer isn’t right for you, we tell you which one is — at what price, and what trade-off you’re making.

We don’t review printers we haven’t used. Every printer guide is based on hands-on experience, community-verified data, and real print hours — not spec sheet comparisons.
